Travelling around Australia in a motorhome. A story of our travels starting from NSW then through Queensland, across to Northern Territory and Western Australia, then to South Australia, Victoria and finally across the seas to Tasmania. We have enjoyed everywhere we have visited and look forward to setting off again in our motorhome.

Eumungerie 7 September 2015

In the morning Heather went off to catch up with some old friends, although most people she knew have left Walgett now. She has mixed feelings when she visits Walgett - so much has changed and mostly not for the better. However after talking to some more locals about what is happening in Walgett and she has an acceptance of the changes she has seen.
There is now a new supermarket and they are building a new police station (sort of a mini opera house) to accommodate 100 police officers, but the rest of the town still looks tired and worn out, with shutters and screens on the shops. It is as if the life has been sucked out of it then injected into Lightning Ridge, which seems to have grown as Walgett has shrunk. Had a look at Coonamble and Gilgandra on the way south and camped at Eumungerie Showground – a quiet little village off the highway. We passed road shoulders of bright yellow Rape flowers, as well as the multiply shades of wattles – very pretty.
