Augathella 9 July 2014
Still on the road north and it is getting warmer, although cold this morning it got up to 25o today. Stopped for lunch at Charleville – although it only has a population of 3,500 it is the largest town in the south-west of Queensland and has a good range of facilities. While it is a very isolated town, the people seem happy living there and can’t imagine living anywhere else. We visited the local museum, which had an interesting range of local artefacts. The countryside started to change with undulating hills and thicker bush. Camped beside the Warrego River at Augathella for the night. This is a village of a few hundred people who seem keen to show off the many facets of their community. There are a number of murals and sculptures scattered around the village, as well as beautiful gardens.
