Gulargambone 3 July 2014
We had a quick look around the tiny town of Cassilis (pop 100) where Heather engaged with an older lady complaining about how her house was like an ice chest and she was out warming her bones in the sun. She chatted to us both about her life here. She had lived there most of her life and remembers when this hamlet was a vibrant town with a full range of facilities. Last night was very cold (down to -3c) and it felt very cold in the morning, although the day was quite warm. We stopped at Dunedoo for a lovely morning tea of scones and coffee, then onto Gilgandra. Heather remembers Gilgandra from her youth and thought it had retained its charm and pride, with a great little shopping centre and a well maintained town. Drove through the late afternoon sun (looking out for kangaroos) and stopped at the camping ground at Gulargambone. This is an impressive little spot with friendly owners who provided a raging campfire for a very long happy hour with damper, pizza and potatoes in foil for all the campers – an enjoyable evening.
