Travelling around Australia in a motorhome. A story of our travels starting from NSW then through Queensland, across to Northern Territory and Western Australia, then to South Australia, Victoria and finally across the seas to Tasmania. We have enjoyed everywhere we have visited and look forward to setting off again in our motorhome.

Mulgildie 5 August 2013

Had a look at Monto on the way south but as there was nowhere to camp we moved on. It seemed an interesting little town.
Stopped in the hamlet of Mulgildie . A resident showed us how the recent flood covered the plains below, just stopping short of the houses. Talking to the locals we heard that this was once a thriving village, with dances, a picture show and a busy general store. Unfortunately as people moved away for work, no one took their place, so the town is slowly dying. The only bright spot is the pub that had new owners a few years ago and they have painted murals on the exterior and are trying to attract travellers to stay awhile.
Camped near the showground for a peaceful night. There were 2 horses in the paddock next to us, so Peter cut some apples to feed them – must be the only horses that don't like apples. They looked at him, looked at the apples and walked away!
