Townsville 14 – 16 July 2015
Drove straight up to Townsville through Bowen and Proserpine and camped in the 7th Day Adventist reserve right next to the river – a beautiful spot. While Bowen was looking dry and dusty as usual, Proserpine was looking prosperous, with the cane cutters and small gage trains working into the night to take the cane to the sugar mills. We caught up Alex and Lyn who we had met at the camp last year. We certainly feel like we are in the tropics now, although there are still cool nights but 25C days. The weather is unusual right along the east coast – Wollongong has a minimum of 10C and Rockie and Brisbane have a minimum of 8C! As Peter had to get some work done on the RV, we stayed close to home and didn’t explore Townsville until Friday. We did get out on Thursday night to hear the Saxon Wind Philharmonic and the local brass bands play a variety of music themed around the 100 year anniversary of WW1.
